A tourist in my own city.
Normally I have an idea in my mind as to what I’m going to share will all of you. Yet today I woke up with nothing. I sit here at my computer thinking I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world yet I have nothing to write about?
I talk to so many people who visit and are excited just taking MUNI, our municipal railway system or even just walking along near Union Square checking out all the sights and sounds and ask myself why don’t I have those same feelings. I think because I’ve lived here all my life that I just take it all for granted.
When I was in Hong Kong as a tourist I was in awe of just walking along the harbor or riding the Star Ferry. When I had dinner with my friend who lives there I was explaining how much I loved doing these things and she had the same reaction I do when tourists are excited about San Francisco “it’s fun” followed by a smile. It’s because we live here and see it from a different perspective.
So, I have vowed that I will become a tourist in my own backyard specifically for the sake of this blog and so that I will be grateful for living in such a beautiful spot on our worlds’ map.
I will be visiting Pier 39 this evening so tomorrow I hope to show you some sea lions or shoppers or at least some souvenirs.
