Sex in the sunset.
It was reported by local news yesterday that there are brothels located in the Sunset and Richmond districts of San Francisco. Apparently a year ago when the city decided to crack down on massage parlors as fronts for prostitution rings the owners and workers decided to move to another area after they were run out of areas downtown. However out here in the Sunset, where I live and the Richmond district it is mainly residential so the prostitution is taking place in homes and apartments. There are men coming - so to speak and going at all hours in several different residences.
Now, I have mixed feelings about this situation. On one hand, I really don’t care that this is going on in my neighborhood. I’d much rather a brothel than drug dealers as neighbors. On the other hand it’s also been reported that there are young girls being used in these brothels and if that is the case then this needs to be stopped.
From the beginning of time there has been prostitution so it’s not going away. What we need to do or at least in San Francisco is to legalize it. If we legalized it, we - meaning city agencies would be able to control it as a business. We could provide health care and prevention of STD’s by working closely with the women and also collect taxes just like we do with any other business. Now I know many will say you are just condoning that behavior but I see it as a solution. Out in the tenderloin and a few other spots in the city you can’t walk down the block without seeing a prostitute. If we legalized and controlled it we wouldn’t be seeing that in our streets and we would be able stop the trafficking of young girls.

I have seen the stories about these children who have been made to do this and it just makes me sick. I am all for stopping the trafficking of young girls!
