Musee Mechanique

A game lover’s paradise is one of the names that could be applied to Musee Mechanique.  Located in a shed like/circus tent structure on Pier 45 in the Fisherman’s Wharf area of San Francisco, this mechanical playland boasts hundreds of mechanized vintage wonders.  There are music boxes, Wurlitzer’s, coin operated animations etc…  Many of the items within Musee Mechanique were previously located along the Great Highway when Playland at the Beach was in operation.  I and my family would spend hours at Playland every weekend.  We’d have lunch at the Hot House Mexican restaurant and then dessert at the It’s It ice cream stand which are both now gone as well.  The City, years ago voted to tear down Playland and build apartments.  The Musee Mechanique is the only “living” memory of that era.  It’s a great place for anyone but especially for kids.  More information can be found at http://www.museemechanique.org

Same here. We went to Playland all the time and I really miss it. You’re right in that it just isn’t the same.
