I am ecstatic right now. I just heard that my cousin Nick Peters, who has covered the San Francisco Giants for more than 40 years will be honored during the Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies next year in Cooperstown, NY. Nick wrote for the Sacramento Bee and Oakland Tribune and became a traveling writer in 1979 covering the Giants. With loyalty to his job and the love of baseball Nick has attended every home opener since I was just a baby. I’m 52 now so that tells you something.
He received 47% of the 447 votes cast by The baseball writer’s association. He says he did not expect the award and that is exactly Nick. He is a low key kinda guy who doesn’t expect much and works hard for what he does. He always wanted to be a baseball writer and I am so thrilled that not only his dream came true but he’s been recognized for his efforts. He’s spent much of his time traveling with the Giants and living out of suitcases but that’s just part of the job for Nick and something he enjoys. He’s met, interviewed and become friends with many of the greats.
Nick is a San Francisco native who attended Lincoln High School as most of us who live in the Sunset did knowing that he always wanted to be a baseball writer. Having the opportunity to write for the hometown team - Wow! He has made us all proud. And, as a writer myself, I can’t even put into words how happy I am for him and his family. Congrats! Cuz. You deserve it.

How very cool! At first I thought he was a baseball player but it’s even cooler that he wasn’t and still was able to travel and cover the Giants wherever they played.
Hey S. Yep a travel writer covering the Giants. Pretty cool huh? I may try and get to NY for the ceremony.
