The Protests Continue

Published by jodapoet at 11:52 am under News, San Francisco Edit This

With the Israeli ground attack entering Gaza the protests here in San Francisco have drawn more people everyday.  The protesters vow to keep protesting on a daily basis until Israel is out of Gaza.  They  grow in population each day and are being heard by the news media etc…  The Israeli consulate has been closed with the street cordoned off by the police.  They are afraid someone will smuggle explosives into the building on the premise of needing help.

There are many who have family along the Gaza strip who are incensed with the aggression by the Israeli’s and then there are those who feel as if Hamas is to blame and Israel is just defending themselves.

No matter the argument, protests will continue in San Francisco.  In fact they are vowing to shut down traffic tomorrow, Monday morning during the rush hour.  I just hope that these are peaceful protests and no one gets hurt.

Having lived in Jerusalem for a semester abroad in college, I can wholeheartedly testify to how difficult and intricate the relations are between the Jews and the Arabs in Israel. At our college, we had speakers come in each week who would talk about the Arab-Israeli conflict - one week, the speaker was from the Israeli side, the next week, the speaker was from the Arab side, etc. It was remarkable how sure each side was that their side was the one who was truly wronged, and how the other side had done nothing but horrible things.

Quite frankly, if anyone can ever make those two sides happy and live in peace with each other, they ought to be voted leader of the world, because obviously they have magical powers that we ought to be using everywhere. Never have I seen two groups of people so dead set on hating and fighting with each other. It breaks my heart, because I can see it from both points of view, and it makes me so sad that they cannot. Or will not.

Hava - thank you so much for your insights. It must be difficult for you to endure. It seems so simple for those of us who don’t understand either side. Let’s just hope their is some type of resolution soon. Thanks for reading and commenting.
