Update: Cop Resigns While Victim Is Buried.

Published by jodapoet at 6:22 pm under News, San Francisco Edit This

While 22 year old Oscar Grant was buried today leaving behind a 4 year old daughter, the cop who shot and killed him resigned the police department on the advice of his attorney which means he does not have to talk with authorities.  So, not only is he a murderer but a cowardice murderer.  New video surfaced which clearly shows Grant sitting with his back against the wall when the cop pushed him to the ground on his stomach and 26 seconds later shot and killed him.  Some are saying that the cop had maybe thought he had pulled a taser on him rather than his gun.  THAT’S NO EXCUSE.  Grant was sitting on the ground  with no reason to be tased let alone shot in the back and killed.

There were demonstrations at the Fruitvale BART station were Oscar Grant was murdered today and as a result the BART trains were stopped for a short period of time.  This is a volatile situation and will remain as such until this cop pays for what he’s done.

I will keep you all updated on a regular basis.

I caught a glimpse of the video as it was shown on the news the other day. Ugh. I said I didn’t want to watch it!!! :(

I look forward to your updates: I don’t think I could stomach the sensationalistic way I know the new shows will deliver the scoop.

How does resigning help him, though? I suppose it saves him from internal investigation within the police department? But it does nothing to stop the family from filing charges against him, right? And with the whole incident caught on tape, I wonder how he could ever explain his way out of it. Having and exercising the right to remain silent will only get you so far with such damning evidence available!

Lynne - yes the video is pretty hard to watch. I’ve seen a few from many angles and it’s horrible. You are right. If he had not resigned he would have had to been interviewed by BART police. Since he resigned and has an attorney, which he retained only a couple of hours after the shooting he doesn’t have to talk to anyone including BART and the regular police department. A civil lawsuit has been filed for $25 million dollars and according to Burris who is the family attorney and a good one I might add, the videos speak for themselves. Thanks for reading. I’ll keep updating.
