My Big Fat Greek Eats
Just like my Mom & Aunt’s home cooking.
I’ve eaten at Myconos Greek Restaurant many times and each time had great service and incredible food. The food here is authentic, traditional Greek food and is the closest thing to “home cookin” as you can get. Being of half Greek and half Italian decent, I appreciate authentic ethnic cuisine. Greek restaurants are few and far between in the city and of the few that are located in San Francisco I enjoy Myconos far and above the rest. This is the real deal.
They serve all the traditional favorites from mousaka, to pastitsio, to keftethes, dolmas and freshly prepared lamb, souvlaki and chicken dishes. The mousaka is flavored with just the right amount of spices & liiterally melts in your mouth - the way it should be. My favorites are the Keftethes (Greek meatballs) Pastitsio (Greek lasagne) and the dolmas (stuffed grapeleaves. The keftethes have just the right amount of mint and are not greasy as many are in different restaurants I’ve tried. The pastitsio is always cooked to perfection and the dolmas have that great lemon flavor. The prices are good. Recently we had the sampler platter for two and it was wonderful. The souvlaki was very tender to my surprise.
If you’re lucky sometimes on a weekend evening the cook will get out there and do some syrta, greek dancing, with the traditional breaking of the plates and all. Bottom line, great food, good prices and wonderful experience. It is located in the lower nob hill area of the city on Polk Street near Sutter. You have to look for it as it is small, but quaint and authentic. The key word being authentic through and through.
For all of you tourists out there that would like to try this restaurant it is very easy to get there with public transportation. If you have any questions about directions you can email me at jmcojo@gmail.com or go to 511.org and use the trip planner.
