Sutro Heights - Golden Gate National Recreation Area
Consisting of sand dunes the once desolate edge of the Western area of San Francisco was developed and renovated in the late 1890’s by one time Mayor Adolph Sutro. The Sutro District of the city is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The once Sutro Baths now consist of moving sandboxes, stairways and paths that lead down cliffs and crumbled stone to concrete club houses.
Walking through Sutro Heights towards Vista Point you will come across spectacular views of San Francisco Bay. There are trees and paths leading down to the edge of the waterfront where Sutro Baths were once housed. The above photo depicts the tropical illusion splendor which decorates the once flattened sand dunes. Before the 19th Century all of the Western portion of the city in this area to include the Richmond and Sunset districts where flat sand dunes. Through the vision Adolph Sutro had for San Francisco he built Sutro Heights to be a tribute to his beloved city by the bay.
Seeing the rays of light glitter through the dark branches creating a surreal silhouette effect is nothing short of breathtaking. Below the tree lined path to Vista Point are paths leading to the water’s edge and seal rock. The paths and stairs have been renovated and resurfaced making them easier to walk and hike. Down along the waterfront is a seating and viewing area equipped with benches and walkways.
Waves clash along the cliffs at your feet and the bay beckons with it’s cotton candy sea-foam dampening the clear beige sands. This is a refreshing spot to sit and have some lunch or just watch the sun go to sleep over the horizon.

I can see the lovely warmth of the place and wish it was nice and warm up here too. It’s refreshing to wonderful pics.
Thanks yan. It is a special place for me
