You gotta love the people here in San Francisco. The night of the inauguration pranksters decided to go through the entire length of Bush Street from the Financial district through the Presidio and apply stickers on all of the corner signs reading Bush changing them to Obama. Frankly I love the idea and thought it should stay that way. However the city didn’t agree and took to the streets the following day to take down all the stickers. Bush street by the way was not named after any president but after a boy who helped Mr. O’Farrell map out the city streets.

There were parties all over San Francisco and the Bay Area to celebrate the inauguration including this one in the Castro. Enjoy!

The Alameda/Oakland Ferry is the most scenic and exciting way to commute back and forth from the East Bay and San Francisco. There are several different stops to include Alameda, Jack London Square in Oakland with all it’s shopping, eateries and glamorous evening venues such as Yoshi’s, the San Francisco Ferry Building, Pier 39 and Angel Island.
There are always three boats sailing at one time to accommodate all the passengers especially during Summer. The boats host a full fledged snack bar which also includes soda, wines and beers. There are extra seasonal journeys to and from points around the bay to AT&T park for the San Francisco Giants games.
The ferries service the bay area seven days a week and are available at Pier 41 on the San Francisco side which is right next door to Pier 39. If you are a shopaholic you can easily take in the sights and sounds of Pier 39 in the morning then ride the ferry to Jack London Square in the afternoon and sample the retail glitz in the heart of Oakland’s waterfront district. It is a 20 minute ride from Alameda to San Francisco and a 30 minute ride from Jack London Square to San Francisco.
Although BART is the most popular means of transportation around the bay, the ferry systems are definitely the most enjoyable. It is a relaxing and even sometimes inspirational means of journeying to and from the city by the bay to points east.
