Sean Penn, on the heels of his best actor award at the Oscars for his portrayal of Harvey Milk is pushing California to officially recognize the late gay politician’s birthday.

State Senator Mark Leno plans to reintroduce a bill Tuesday with Penn by his side designating Milk’s birthday a “day of significance.”

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the same bill last year.  The governator says Milk should be honored in San Francisco but not statewide.  I’d like to personally ask him why? What is wrong with honoring Milk statewide?

Leno says Penn’s award shows that Schwarzenegger’s argument about Milk being only of provincial interest no longer holds up.

Let’s see where this one goes. Your thoughts?

What is a “Day of Signifigance”?
It sounds like another day off for state workers.
While Harvey Milk’s death was a tragedy,I don’t think we need another holiday.I’m sure in ten years some Congressman will be pushing for an Obama holiday.
