Oakland Police Officers

Published by jodapoet at 1:39 pm under News, San Francisco Edit This

First I would like to offer my condolences to the families of the three officers who were killed and the one officer who is in critical condition.  This story is sad, heartbreaking and tragic.  These officers were killed in the line of duty by a parolee with an assault rifle.

We hear so many stories of people being killed on a daily basis and not just in Oakland but everywhere that it doesn’t even phase us anymore.  It really is disgusting when you think about it.

This begs for another post on gun control.  Now I’ve heard all the arguments against gun control from it being unconstitutional to the ever popular “criminals will still commit crimes whether they have guns or not” stance.  My question for all of you is if we did not have these guns all over our streets, would have what happened in Oakland yesterday even taken place?  My answer is an unequivocal NO!

Assault weapons do not belong anywhere, let alone in the hands of a parolee.  This is becoming the Wild West out here and why? Because there are guns on the streets - period.  No other explanation required.

Until we can effectively ban weapons these types of tragic incidents will take place and increase. It’s as simple as that.  So, all of you gun loving NRA backers out there, give me one “good” reason why guns should not be banned.   And I don’t want to hear the same old arguments, give me a reason that makes perfect sense.

Assault weapons used in the shooting of the OPD are already banned in California.

Proof that that criminals do not obey gun control laws.

it is a right guarenteed by the framers when they established the country. we should be careful not to change what they wrote because we think we know better…..

I have quite a few guns. I like to collect guns. Almost all of mine are military rifles from various countries. One thing the anti-gun people fail to realize is that we, (pro-gun people), like guns for the simple reason that we like to set up targets and shoot. If the courts would start executing some of these criminals instead of letting them out so they can kill again, perhaps some of the violence would go away. Also, law abiding citizens should be allowed to carry a weapon if they so desire. The bad guys would have to think twice before trying to rob or rape someone. Of course, executing killers and allowing the law abiding citizens to carry a weapon won’t happen in The Peoples Republik of Kalifornia because it obviously makes way too much sense.
