A State Of Emergency In The South Bay

Published by jodapoet at 9:51 am under News, San Francisco Edit This

Could you imagine waking up in the morning and having no phone service, no internet service, no ATM service, no cell service and worst of all no way to call 911 if there were an emergency?  Well, that is exactly what took place yesterday in the San Jose and Santa Clara valley areas south of San Francisco.

Apparently vandals had opened a manhole in four different areas, climbed down 10 feet in four feet of water and cut fiber optic cables causing massive outages in the South Bay which also effected internet lines all the way up through San Francisco.  People were completely stranded.

Banks were only opened for deposits because computers and automatic teller machines were down.  You could not fill your tank because they were not working.  Calling 911 was impossible because phone lines were not working and neither were cell phones.  Stores could only accept cash because their merchant machines were not working.  As of now there are still people without service.

The police and FBI are investigating.  Due to the cables that were cut and the fact that the vandals were able to get inside the manhole which can only be done by using a special tool, they state that the person or persons responsible had extensive knowledge of exactly how to vandalize the system.  They are calling it an act of terrorism and are actively searching for the culprit.

It is rumored that a workers union who is currently in arbitration with AT&T could be responsible for these actions.  The workers union completely denies they had anything to do with the vandalism.

Now for a little levity, get you fiber optic hair here.
